Beyond the Books: A Glimpse Into My World. I Am More Than An Author

When people think of me, they often picture me as an author, businesswoman, and advocate for disability awareness. But there’s so much more that shapes who I am and what I love. Today, I want to share more about myself—my interests, hobbies, and what brings me joy outside of my work.

Art & Dreaming of Europe

My love of art began as a Cal Poly Pomona University graphic design student. Studying art history opened my eyes to the beautiful masterpieces from Europe and around the world. I remember cramming my brain with the works of artists who shaped the course of history with their creativity. This experience sparked my dream to one day travel to Italy and Paris to see those incredible museums and famous paintings in person. I hope to make that trip to Europe and Paris soon, where I can finally immerse myself in the art that has inspired many.

Action Movies & Summer Escapes

Movies have always been an escape, especially during my college summers when I had no classes. I would spend entire days at the movie theater, sometimes watching three films back-to-back. I’d grab a Subway sandwich inbetween and settle in for hours, sometimes enjoying a KitKat and blueberry Slurpee. Action films have always been my favorite. I’m a huge fan of Denzel Washington (I've seen every movie he has played in pretty much), Samuel L. Jackson, Lawrence Fishburne, Matthew McConaughey, and Christian Bale. The theater was a perfect way to step outside my reality for a while.

Music & Concerts

Music is another passion of mine. I love old-school R&B and artists like Drake, Mary J. Blige, Baby Bash, and Chris Brown, and I love gospel music too; it uplifts my spirit: Pastor Mike Jr., Kirk Franklin, Tasha Cobbs, CeCe Winans, and many more. I also enjoy going to concerts. There’s something special about being in the crowd, feeling the energy of live performances. Music brings so much joy into my life, and concerts give me a chance to be surrounded by that joy, live and in person.

Comedy Shows & Laughter

Another love of mine is comedy. Kevin Hart is a favorite, and I’ve been lucky to catch his shows live a few times. There’s nothing better than the energy and joy that comes from laughing with hundreds of people. Comedy brings me a sense of lightness and fun, a great balance to the serious side of life.

A Love for Food

I also consider myself a bit of a foodie. Dining out at fine restaurants is one of my guilty pleasures, and so far, Hell’s Kitchen has been my favorite. I’m a huge fan of Gordon Ramsay and have seen every episode of his shows—something about his passion for food inspires me. Whether seafood or Italian, I love experiencing new flavors and indulging in a great meal. Meeting up with friends at new restaurants is a fav!

Reading & Audiobooks

I used to be an avid reader of novels, but as my career has grown, I have less time to relax with a good book. Nowadays, I try to listen to audiobooks when I can. It’s a great way to stay connected to stories even when life is busy. However, podcasts have never really been my thing.

TV Series & British Crime Dramas

When I have some downtime, binge-watching TV series is my go-to activity. My favorite platforms are Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, and I’m especially drawn to British crime shows. I’ve probably seen most of them by now! There’s something about the suspense and storytelling that keeps me hooked. Unlike many people, I’m not a fan of romantic movies, love stories, or Christmas-themed films. They don’t interest me as much.

Author enjoying traceling

So, there you have it—a glimpse into what brings me joy. I hope this helps you see a different side of me, full of adventure, laughter, creativity, and connection. At the end of the day, all of these interests shape who I am as a writer and influence the stories I tell. Life is about balance, and these passions help me keep that balance.

I am an author, businesswoman, creative, motivational speaker, disability advocate... I am me, I am Charity.
